about twelve months, for which charge has been made, and understand that it is usual for the Crown Agents to pay Consulting Engineers by salary, and not by percentages, I am willing to be paid by salary say at a

The works about to be

executed are of a very important
character and will require
unceasing attention, as
the
Masonry Dam will be a large
and costly work. The tunnel heading will be comparatively simple, and by being executed departmentally a great saving will be Effected. As to the Masonry Dam, if this had been let by Contract I would have declined to be responsible- The entire works are however to be Departmentally Executed, and I have no doubt but that they will when completed be sound, enduring, Efficient and cheap

works.
